Webinar, 9 July : Nicaragua, free education for all, a right not a commodity

“ ….education is not just about process and exams. It’s about human development, social justice, values and respect for the environment.”  Salvador Vanegas, Ministerial Adviser to the President on Education

Education is seen as a human right rather than a privilege or a commodity, a key factor along with free health care, in poverty reduction and economic development.

The government’s commitment is illustrated by the fact that some 58% of the national budget is devoted to social spending, with health, education and housing the highest priorities.

Join this NSCAG webinar to find out how these values have become embedded in the free, universal education system in Nicaragua.

In addition the webinar will also include the National Education Union (NEU) and the Nicaraguan teachers’ union (ANDEN) teacher exchange, a powerful example of mutual international solidarity.

Speakers:

Becca Renk, Director of the JHC- CDCA’s health clinic in Ciudad Sandino, Coordinator of the Casa Benjamin Linder solidarity project

Ruth Bailey, PGCE Director at the University of Bristol, member of NSCAG Executive Committee, participated in the UK-Nicaragua teacher exchange in 2022.

A representative of Nicaraguan teachers’ union ANDEN (to be confirmed)
