Nicaragua Solidarity Campaign Action Group
International solidarity with Nicaraguan trade unions was crucial during 16 years of neo-liberal governments, when our sisters and brothers in the Nicaraguan trade union movement struggled to survive.
It remains just as important today at a time when continued US aggression and illegal coercive measures (sanctions) against Nicaragua threaten the lives and livelihoods of workers and the most impoverished and most vulnerable in society.
International solidarity is also important to Nicaragua’s trade unions in order to help them to build stronger and more powerful trade unions, achieve the best deal for their members and build a fair and just society.Â
Trade union solidarity is about mutual support and working in partnership to achieve better outcomes for workers globally. The relationships developed between UK trade unionists and their Nicaraguan counterparts will provide opportunities for a mutual exchange of advice and expertise in order to improve the lives of trade union members and better overcome the challenges faced globally.
Twelve national UK unions are affiliated to the NSCAG – ASLEF, BFAWU, CWU, FBU, GMB, MU, NEU, RMT, TSSA, UNISON, UNITE and USDAW. In addition, over 150 trade union regions and branches are affiliated to us. We aim to strengthen links between UK and trade unions through project work, delegations and visits.
