Nicaragua Solidarity Campaign Action Group
In the last twenty years, through successive Sandinista governments, Nicaragua has been transformed. At the heart of its progress is Nicaragua’s family-community model which reflects the country’s commitment to eradicating poverty and promoting gender equity.Â
Nicaragua’s remarkable achievements include:
– free, high quality health care for all with hundreds of new health facilities and maternal mortality reduced by 70%
– free, high quality education for all with life long learning entitlement
– poverty reduction from 48% to 12.5%
– highest ranking country for gender equity in the Americas
– affordable homes
– an extensive road network linking cities and rural areas, ensuring safe travel and enabling farmers to get their produce to markets more easily
– at least 70% of energy renewable
– 90% sovereignty in basic foods
These are the very successes that the United States perceives as ‘an unusual and extraordinary threat to the national security and foreign policy of the US’. Secretary of State Marco Rubio describes Nicaragua, Venezuela, and Cuba as ‘enemies of humanity’ and there is no doubt that Nicaragua remains on Trump’s ‘to do’ list.Â
The US has already harmed Nicaragua’s progress through:
– imposing sanctions to block funds from the IMF and World Bank, depriving Nicaragua of poverty reduction funds
– attempting to block Nicaragua’s remaining source of funding from the Central American Bank for Economic Integration (CABEI)
– imposing tariffs on Nicaragua’s exports to the US (10% in 2027, 15% in 2028)
– punitive measures such as visa restrictions that threaten Nicaragua’s successful tourist industry
 How NSCAG supports Nicaragua’s progress
NSCAG stands ready to support Nicaragua’s right to self-determination but your support is vital to our campaigning, sharing the good news of Nicaragua’s achievements and counteracting the lies of the US government. We are a small team of part time staff and volunteers so your donations go a long way.
Here’s how your donations support us:
– producing briefings and other campaign material
– hosting visits from Nicaraguan trade unionists
– organising webinars and public meetings
– strengthening links between UK and Nicaraguan trade unions
– facilitating trade union delegations to Nicaragua
Any donation, however small, makes a big difference to our work
Join us in supporting NSCAG's vital mission to defend Nicaragua's sovereignty against unjust US sanctions and promote the essential work of its trade unions and social economy. Your donation will help us continue our campaigns, provide new resources for activists, and organise events that amplify Nicaraguan voices. For 45 years, we've stood in solidarity with the Nicaraguan people—please donate now to help us sustain and expand our efforts for justice and peace. Every contribution makes a difference!
