Nicaragua Solidarity Campaign Action Group
Since the Sandinistas returned to power in 2007, the government has made reducing poverty its top priority through well integrated programmes investing in free health care and education, gender equality programmes, and infrastructure improvements.Â
Nicaragua is a country transformed: poverty and extreme poverty have been cut by half. The country’s only ‘crime’ is to exercise its right to national sovereignty and show that ‘a better world is possible’.
But all this is under threat from Trump. Strangling the economy and spreading disinformation to force regime change was the Reagan administration’s key strategy during the 1980s contra war; more than forty years on, US determination to impose its own form of ‘democracy’ continues unabated.
In February, Secretary of State Marco Rubio proclaimed Nicaragua, Cuba and Venezuela ‘enemies of humanity’ responsible for the region’s migration crisis.
The US has a raft of measures that they could use to strangle Nicaragua’s economy and further impoverish the poorest and most vulnerable
Our resources are extremely limited, and we need funds urgently to campaign more effectively at this time of crisis for Nicaragua
Spreading the truth will be key. More funding will enable us to reach more people through producing materials, hosting webinars, participating in events and co-ordinating more speaker tours by Nicaraguan visitors (including air fare, the average cost of one speaker tour is £3000).
Most of our work is done on a voluntary basis, and we rely almost entirely on individual and TU membership and donations to carry out our work.
Please help us by giving what you can. Our solidarity with Nicaragua at this time could not be more urgent.
Join us in supporting NSCAG's vital mission to defend Nicaragua's sovereignty against unjust US sanctions and promote the essential work of its trade unions and social economy. Your donation will help us continue our campaigns, provide new resources for activists, and organise events that amplify Nicaraguan voices. For 45 years, we've stood in solidarity with the Nicaraguan people—please donate now to help us sustain and expand our efforts for justice and peace. Every contribution makes a difference!
