For 43 years NSC and NSCAG have stood in solidarity with the Nicaraguan people and social organisations and movements through building links between UK organisations and their Nicaraguan counterparts.

Join us in this solidarity event to learn more about how this has developed over recent years, particularly through education and rural development.

Through a continuation of the 1979 Revolution, Nicaragua and its social movements demonstrate not just in rhetoric but also in action how to build a better life for the majority of their people.

With 58% of the national budget devoted to health and education, and with priority given to supporting the social economy, low-cost housing and improved infrastructure, Nicaragua is a shining example of what can be achieved when people are put before profit.

Since 2018 this has been achieved despite an attempted coup, the Covid pandemic, two major hurricanes and US sanctions.

Political space opened up by the government has enabled social movements such as the ATC to focus on rural development programmes that build food sovereignty, agroecology and social transformation, the priorities of La Via Campesina.
